How much should you risk on one trade?

The rule is 1–2% of your balance, and 1% if you are new. This turns that percentage into a number you can actually use — and shows you why the rule exists.

How to read this

The two rows at the bottom are the point of the whole calculator. A losing streak of five is normal even with a good method — a fair coin produces five heads in a row regularly. The question is never how to avoid one; it is what a normal one does to your account.

At 1% risk, ten straight losses costs you about 10% of the balance. At 20%, five losses is effectively the account. Same method, same market, completely different outcome — and the only variable is the number you type in the second box.

Write the resulting figure on a note stuck to your screen. Not in your head — in your head it becomes negotiable the moment you are losing. Full reasoning in Lesson 4.
